THE LIGHT THAT BLINDS US / SVETLOST KOJA NAS ZASLEPLJUJE

"The Light That Blinds Us" was created from the need to express my connection to a place that has shaped a significant part of my life: Amorgos, an island in the Cyclades.

The project approaches the subject from two perspectives: my personal experience and the daily life of its inhabitants. The common thread between these two is the deep love for the land. At the same time, my work focuses on the interaction between the island's physical geography and its human geography, highlighting the dynamic relationship between nature and people.

The isolation that the inhabitants experience for most of the year, away from the bustle of tourism, creates a sense of time travel during the quieter months. This photographic series tells a story through landscapes, symbols, and moments that challenge the stereotypical images of the island, connecting them with the island's ethnographic character.

Through evocative and allegorical landscapes, I document a deeply personal impression of the place that "raised" me. At the same time, the portraits of the island's people reveal its soul, the living core of its history.

The light, which plays a central role in Cycladic landscape art, is used as a symbol and a key element of the work, highlighting Amorgos' uniqueness through the synthesis of personal experience with the collective memories and stories of the place.

„Svetlost koja nas zaslepljuje” nastala je iz potrebe da izrazim svoju povezanost sa mestom koje je oblikovalo značajan deo mog života — Amorgosom, ostrvom u Kikladima.

Projekat pristupa temi iz dva ugla: kroz moje lično iskustvo i kroz svakodnevicu njegovih stanovnika. Zajednička nit koja ih povezuje jeste duboka ljubav prema zemlji. Istovremeno, moj rad se fokusira na interakciju između fizičke geografije ostrva i ljudske geografije, ističući dinamičan odnos prirode i čoveka.

Izolovanost koju stanovnici osećaju veći deo godine, daleko od turističke užurbanosti, stvara utisak putovanja kroz vreme u tišim mesecima. Ova fotoserija priča priču kroz pejzaže, simbole i trenutke koji dovode u pitanje stereotipne predstave o ostrvu, povezujući ih sa njegovim etnografskim karakterom.

Kroz prizore pune simbolike i aluzija, dokumentujem duboko lični utisak o mestu koje me je „odgajilo”. Istovremeno, portreti ljudi sa ostrva otkrivaju njegovu dušu, živo jezgro njegove istorije.

Svetlost, koja ima centralnu ulogu u umetnosti kikladskih pejzaža, ovde je simbol i ključni element rada — ona otkriva jedinstvenost Amorgosa kroz spoj ličnog iskustva i kolektivnih sećanja i priča ovog mesta.
